SKYWARN class to be held in Jefferson County

RANSON, W.Va. — The Jefferson County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will host a SKYWARN winter storm-spotter class on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Independent Fire Co. at 200 W. 2nd Ave. in Ranson.
The class, which will be taught by National Weather Service personnel, is free and open to the public.
The SKYWARN classes are designed to educate the public on weather threats in the area.

The weather service is seeking more storm spotters to help provide fast and vital information to the agency.

Topics that will be covered include winter hazards in the region, winter preparation and safety, winter normals and extremes, how winter storms develop, weather service forecasts and products, and the role of SKYWARN participants.
