Sam Michael’s Park Amphitheater almost finished

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. — The new amphitheater at Sam Michael’s Park in Jefferson County is nearing completion.

“It’s about 98% finished,” said Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Myers. “So the only thing left is some minor grading when things dry out a little bit. (We’ll) get some seeding and we are ready to roll.”

An opening celebration for the new venue is scheduled for May 4th. Myers says they are currently in the process of booking musical acts for the event.

“There is going to be three festivals for the county with the amphitheater coming on board this year,” said Myers. “We’re working on a kids’ summer concert series for minimal charge and then a free concert series as well that we’re going to do in the evenings. So we’re excited to get things rolling and we’re working through some of the hiccups now figuring out how to make that work.”

When finished, the amphitheater is expected to house about 1,200 spectators.
