MPD nets more arrests through “Operation Spring Cleaning”

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Martinsburg Police Department conducted Phase IV of the “Operation Spring Cleaning” early yesterday morning.

Originally launched in May of last year, the operation is an enforcement initiative targeting all drug dealers in the city.

Nine people were arrested as part of the sweep yesterday, including former Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy, 30-year-old Michael Buracker.

Police Chief Maury Richards said on Panhandle Live Tuesday the results of the enforcement effort speak for themselves.

“Over the last year we’ve put more than 50 serious drug dealers in jail on felony charges, and that’s just the Martinsburg Police Department,” Richards said.

The most recent arrests and related warrants totaled 25 felony drug charges for distribution of heroin.

Richards credits exemplary police work and undercover investigations by members of the Martinsburg Police Department for the successful round up.
