EPTA clears first hurdle for bus shelter near Martinsburg Library; adding more features

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority has cleared a major hurdle in the process to place a bus station near the square downtown.

EPTA Director Doug Pixler says there is still one more step to go before construction can start.

The Martinsburg Public Library sits within a historic district.

“On Monday, we went before the historical society for placing the shelter right by the library and that was the first hurdle,” said Pixler. “Now we have to go before the Martinsburg City Council and talk to them about it and hopefully get their approval as well.”

Pixler said in 2019 they are also going to improve wayfinding signage, replace some buses and add automated announcements on board to help users find their stops.

“(There are) those that come into the area, that are new in the area or maybe visiting that want to utilize our transit system,” said Pixler. “It helps them because they don’t know the area. So having that wayfinding accessibility right there on the shelters is going to be very huge for us.”

EPTA’s new smartphone app is also available for Apple and Android devices. It can be downloaded by texting “TOKEN” to 41411 or located in the Apple and Google Play stores by searching “Token Transit”.
