Two Jefferson County Schools to merge

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Blue Ridge Primary School and Blue Ridge Elementary School are officially merging.

The Jefferson County Board of Education approved the move during their meeting last night.

The board had previously discussed the possibility of a merger after current principal at Blue Ridge Primary School Nicole Shaffer announced that she will be leaving her position.

School Superintendent Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson says there will not be a change for students or parents.

“It was purely an administrative move to cut admin cost so that we could add service and teaching staff,” Gibson said during Panhandle Live Tuesday.

The Jefferson County Board of Education madeĀ the decision after gettingĀ approval from the West Virginia Department of Education.
