MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The W. Randy Smith Recreation Center in Inwood, W.Va. will be expanding thanks to its namesake.
Former Powerball jackpot winner Randy Smith has agreed to donate $1 million through the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation.
Parks and Recreation Executive Director Steve Catlett told board members yesterday they have plans for phase two and phase three expansion wings.
He told WEPM News they will begin with phase three because it is simpler and less expensive.
“Phase three goes out into the back of the building. It’s going to be the same size but it doesn’t have all the frills,” he said.
Phase two is identical to the existing building and would cost an estimated $1.5 million dollars.
Catlett said construction on phase three could begin next spring, if not sooner.
The current 18,200-square-foot rec center is designed to be expanded to about 50,000 square feet once both additions are complete.
Phase three will bring the square footage to just over 34,000 square feet.
