Rockwool VP of Communications: threats against company are “not okay”

RANSON, W.Va. — A Rockwool representative  is addressing threats made on the controversial plant being built in Ranson.

A recent social media post from one opponent indicated that they were going to “blow up” the plant once its completed. Another threat reportedly mentioned an employee’s wife and son.

On MetroNews “Talkline” this morning, Hoppy Kercheval was joined by Rockwool Vice President Michael Zarin.

He says that he’s not opposed to criticism against the plant but these threats take it one step too far.

“It’s okay to oppose the factory. It’s okay to have different opinions. It’s okay to debate and discuss and argue vigorously and passionately,” said Zarin. “But its not okay to propose blowing up the factory with 150 people inside.”

Zarin says the response to the plant in Jefferson County hasn’t all been negative and noted the “Welcome Rockwool” group that was recently formed.

“That was something that formed without our initiative and its an expression for public support for it,” said Zarin.

He added that Rockwool plans to show Jefferson County that they can be a “pretty good neighbor”.
