Officials from the Eastern Panhandle attend medical marijuana research in Colorado

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Business leaders from around the U.S. met at a conference in Denver, Colorado on medical marijuana research last weekend.

Among them were a couple of business owners from the Eastern Panhandle. The objective of the conference was to learn about the successful cannabis industry in Colorado and how to bring that knowledge back to their respectful areas.’

Medical Marijuana became legal in West Virginia back in April but it won’t be implemented until the summer of 2019.

Local business owner H.D. Boyd attended the conference and said the knowledge that was passed along will prove to be valuable.

“It’s not really a business you want to get into blind. Just like any business, you want to kinda know how it works and the “dos and donts” I guess,” said Boyd. “But we found out a lot of good things out there.”

Boyd added that the legalization of medical marijuana can help the Eastern Panhandle in its battle against the opioid crisis and the opioid addiction rate in Colorado supports that claim.
