New P&G plant creating internal buzz

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Procter and Gamble is still on track to begin manufacturing Bounce Fabric Enhancers at the plant being built in Berkeley County by the end of the year.

P&G Spokesman Jeff LeRoy said construction on the more than one-million-square-foot facility will continue into 2018 as they prepare to add other products to the production list.

LeRoy said there’s a lot of buzz about what is coming to the Eastern Panhandle throughout the company.

“The employees we have there are very happy,” LeRoy said on Panhandle Live Wednesday. “We’ve had a couple that have relocated there and talked about retiring there.”

He said they are getting requests from some employees at other plants across the country inquiring about relocating.

That’s true of the roughly 500 employees at a plant in Brockville, Ontario as well.

That facility will close in late 2020 or early 2021 when production of Swiffer products is moved to Martinsburg.

“We’re very hopeful that we’ll be able to transition a lot of the employees to other P&G sites,” he said. “We’ve been really encouraged about how many of the employees at the Brockville site have asked about transferring down to the Martinsburg area.”

The company still expects to have 300 employees ready to go by the end of this year and 700 full time workers at the plant in 2019.
