MARC offering free rides to federal workers not getting paid, DC Metro could follow

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — As the partial government shutdown continues, free transit is available for federal workers not getting paid.

The Maryland Transit Authority and Gov. Larry Hogan announced Thursday that federal employees can ride free on all MARC, Commuter Bus and BaltimoreLink services, including: CityLink, LocalLink, Express BusLink, Light RailLink and Metro SubwayLink. The plan went into effect on Friday.

Federal workers must present their ID Cards in order to ride for free.

Following that announcement, DC Coucilmember Jack Evans confirmed to WUSA9 that a similar step is under consideration for Metro. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) board is expected to vote on Friday afternoon at 3. If the idea passes, it could be implemented as early as Monday.

We will update this story with the decision.
