Local charities give back on Giving Tuesday

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Giving Tuesday is a day that encourages those to give back and kicks off the charitable giving season during the holidays.

The United Way of the Eastern Panhandle and its partners marked the occasion today with plenty of events.

The Jingle & Mingle Volunteer and Vendor Fair at the Holiday Inn Martinsburg featured booths from local non-profit organizations seeking volunteers and donations while giving away gift baskets.

The Wellness Center at Berkeley Medical Center is offering donation-based yoga classes through out today.

And City National Bank hosted a “Battle of the Banks” today in an effort to increase food donations at branch locations.

On WEPM’s “Panhandle Live” Tuesday, United Way CEO Penny Porter said today’s activities area joint effort from organizations across the Panhandle.

“Our community is very generous and they support our non-profit community in many different ways,” said Porter. “We are very, very thankful.”

Porter says people can participate online at uwayep.org/givingtuesday.
