HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Students at one of Berkeley County’s four high schools got a day off after a power outage.

Berkeley County Schools Communication Director Elaine Bobo confirmed to WEPM that Hedgesville High School administrators were made aware of a partial outage at 6:35 Thursday morning.

An underground break in power caused two fuse links to short. This resulted in a total power outage at the school at around 7:20 am.

“The power company was immediately notified and responded,” said Bobo. “Students were relocated to areas with supervision and light. Buses that were making elementary runs were alerted to return to the high school at 8:30 am for dismissal. All students were released at that time.”

Power was restored at the school at around noon Thursday. Classes will resume as normal on Friday, weather permitting.
