MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — An annual event aimed at giving back to one of the nation’s largest children’s research hospitals has returned to the Eastern Panhandle.

95.9 The Big Dawg WICL, sister station of WEPM, began their drive on Thursday. It will run until 6 pm then begin again Friday morning.

Early Thursday, representatives of two Hagerstown businesses visited the radio station to drop off a check. Ginn’s Water Pump and Drilling along with Philips Son & Drilling contributed $13,540.

“They have been huge supporters of St. Jude’s for a very long time,” said WICL afternoon host Jason Tyler. “They’ve been a big sponsor of our radiothon for the last couple of years. So I want to say a big, huge thank you to them.”

Unlike most hospitals, the majority of St. Jude’s funding comes from community and business contributions.

“The families never receive a bill. These parents get fed, they get to stay at the hospital or stay at a hotel near where their kids are getting treated. They never get a bill because of people listening.”
