Group from Eastern Panhandle to demostrate at Capital against Rockwool plant

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — As the legislative session ramps up in Charleston, a group from the Panhandle has made the trip down to the capital to make their voices heard.

The group will be demonstrating on the steps of the capital at 6 Wednesday evening against the controversial Rockwool insulation under construction in Jefferson County.

One of the demonstrators, Mary Reed, called in and spoke on Panhandle Live this morning. She said the plant’s location near North Jefferson Elementary School worries her and that her protest is about helping the community.

“I think companies that put out this much carbon dioxide in the air are just adding to global warming,” said Reed. “This is something I would not do. So to do this, it’s something I believe in.”

The group will also be joined by Delegates John Unger, Sammi Brown, and John Doyle.

Plans for Rockwool’s Ranson plant have passed all state and federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
