MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Frederick, Md. woman found guilty on charges stemming from a fatal crash in Berkeley County will spend the next nine to 45 years behind bars.

Clairesse Felipe, 34, was sentenced Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court.

In March a jury convicted Felipe on two counts of driving under the influence resulting in the deaths of two Hagerstown women; DUI resulting in serious bodily injury to another passenger; and felony leaving the scene of accident resulting in death.

Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Catie Wilkes Delligatti told WEPM News her office was pleased with the outcome.

“That is very close to what we recommended,” she said. “While nothing can bring back the victims we’re glad that justice has been achieved with protecting the community in the future.”

Delligatti said Felipe is a repeat offender who did not seem to learn from her mistakes.

“She’d been arrested for driving under the influence both prior to and after this incident,” she said.

Felipe, who denied that she was driving the vehicle in July 2015 when it crashed along Winchester Avenue, declined to make a statement before being sentenced Monday.
