Falling Waters man arrested for string of armed robberies in Washington County

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A West Virginia man has been charged for a string of crimes in Washington County.

Wade Grove, 49 of Falling Waters, is accused of trying to rob the Clear Spring McDonalds and the Super 8 Motel in Hagerstown.

Washington County deputies responded to the Clear Spring McDonalds at 9:48 Tuesday evening after Grove allegedly pretended to have a gun in his pocket and demanded money from a cashier. The suspect fled after the cashier said they couldn’t open the register.

At 10:22, deputies responded to the Super 8 along Blake Road in Hagerstown for a similar call with the same vehicle description. Grove fled that scene as well but was spotted and stopped by a Hagerstown Police officer on East Washington Street.

Grove has been charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted robbery, armed robbery, robbery, assault 1st degree, assault 2nd degree and theft of $100 to $1,500.

He is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.
