Community Combined Ministries preparing to feed children in need through spring break

Food for students in need.

MARTINBURG, W.Va. — Community Combined Ministries (CCM) prepares their team of volunteers for upcoming events including auctions, food drives, and fundraisers to feed over 900 children across 40 schools throughout Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.

CCM is a local faith-based non-profit organization providing meals to less fortunate children. Three meals each day are provided to children on spring, summer, and holiday breaks, and even over the weekend.

With anywhere from 100 to 250 volunteers, CCM founder Diana Wall says it’s a team effort.

“Our youngest (volunteer) is like 2, our oldest just turned 90.”

Every month volunteers pack and distribute “Kidz Power Pacs”, filled with nutritious easy-open, kid-friendly foods.

Because CCM does not source its food from local food banks, they rely solely on public sponsorship, volunteer work, and prayer. The organization continues to widen their search for volunteers in preparation for the student’s spring break.

‘Whenever the children are on a break, whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas or Spring Break, of course they’re not receiving the school breakfast and lunch,” said Wall. “So we cover all three meals for everyday that they’re off.”

CCM is holding a packing event this weekend, March 15 and 16, and looking for helping hands;

“We need a lot of helping hands,” said Wall. “Some young backs would be great because this one’s getting older.”
