City of Martinsburg hires new fire chief

MARTINSBURG,  W.Va.— The City of Martinsburg has announced the hiring of a new fire chief.

J.D. Hummingbird will officially begin his appointed role on Monday, March 25. Hummingbird brings over 30 years of emergency management and leadership experience.

According to a news release from the City of Martinsburg, Hummingbird comes to the Eastern Panhandle after serving as a fire chief in Artesia, New Mexico. Prior to this position, he retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years as a firefighter.

The hiring comes after the December 2018 resignation of now-former Martinsburg Fire Chief Paul Bragg.
