Berkeley Solid Waste Auth. holding tire collection event for all WV residents

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority is hosting spring cleaning events to help area residents clean their homes and yards.

On Saturday, April 27, they are hosting a tire collection event from 9 am – 5 pm for West Virginia residents at the South Berkeley Recycling Center. Each resident with a valid West Virginia’s driver’s license will be allowed to dispose up to 10 tires for free.

“It’s expensive,” said Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority Chairman Clint Hogbin on Monday’s ‘Panhandle Live’. “When people buy new tires it costs a few dollars. In an effort to save that money, folks come and utilize our program which is what it’s for.”

On Saturday, May 18th, the Authority will be hosting a sensitive document shredding event from 9 am – noon at the Grapevine Road Recycling Center. Each resident with a vehicle displaying West Virginia tags will be eligible to dispose of up to 5 medium sized boxes for free.

“It’s the right way to get rid of those documents,” said Hogbin. “Maybe medical records or bank records or things that have sensitive information on them that you’ve been holding for a long time. You’d like to see them recycled but you’d like to see it done a little differently than normal.”
