MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office held a promotion recognition ceremony yesterday for four officers.

Lieutenant Daniel Steerman was promoted to the rank of Captain, Sergeant Jarrett Jones was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, Corporal Adam Burns was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and Deputy Kurt Yoder was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

County Sheriff Curtis Keller hosted the event that was attended by fellow officers and family members of the promoted officers. Keller along with a selected family member pinned on the new ranks on the uniforms of the officers as they were announced.

Keller said the promoted four officers will help the newer members of the department.

“They’re good leaders and that’s going to help a lot because we are getting younger deputies on,” said Keller. “So, they’re going to be leaders to these deputies and show them how the job is done.”

Keller said he thinks the ceremony was the first of its kind in the department.
