Berkeley County Parks & Recreation receives $30K donation for P.O. Faulkner Park tennis courts

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Parks and Recreation Board received an early Christmas gift last month.

Executive Director Steve Catlett tells WEPM they received an anonymous donation worth $30,000 on Christmas Eve. That money will go toward replacing the tennis courts at P.O. Faulkner Park.

Catlett said the plan is to secure more funds, donations and private money for the courts before going before the city, the Berkeley County Council and Board of Education.

If so, Catlett said construction could begin as soon as this spring.

“All new asphalt. Hopefully all new fencing. All new color, painted lines, nets, posts, the whole sha-bang. If we’re able to pull this off then, hopefully it will be there for the next 30 years.”

The over 35-year-old courts at Faulkner Park are open to the community. They also serve as the home courts for the Martinsburg High School Tennis team.
