Berkeley County man indicted for illegal firearms sales

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Falling Waters man appeared in federal court Tuesday after being indicted last week on firearm sales violations.

U.S. Attorney Bill Powell announced William Hoffman, 52, has been charged with one count of “Sale to a Prohibited Person” and one count of “Making a False Entry in records by Federal Firearms Dealer.”

He is accused of selling a .45 ACP caliber rifle to a convicted felon last month in Berkeley County and knowingly failing to make an appropriate entry of the sale in his records.

Hoffman faces up to 11 years incarceration and fines of up to $350,000 for both counts.
