MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Beginning Friday evening, the intersection of Rock Cliff Drive and Tavern Road in Martinsburg will be closed through Monday morning as the intersection is converted to a roundabout from a four-way stop.

Berkeley County Office of Emergency Services Director Randy Lilly said they never like to close down an intersection like that, especially a busy one.

He says when it’s all done, it will relieve traffic for an intersection he says gets “really backed up.”

Lilly talked about the timeline:

On Panhandle Live Friday, Randy Lilly gave some tips on getting around the area while the intersection is closed.  Following are detours suggested by Mr. Lilly for motorists coming in or from various roadways:

He cautions those routes are not suitable for tractor trailer traffic:

The Rock Cliff Drive/Tavern Road Intersection, in Berkeley County, will be closed from 6 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, through 6 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2024, to allow for the conversion of the intersection from a four-way stop to a permanent roundabout configuration. Motorists should seek an alternate route around the project.

Trucks traveling between Interstate 81 Exit 14 and Martinsburg are advised to use Edwin Miller Boulevard and I-81, Exit 16.

Exact schedule is weather dependent.

Questions regarding the project can be directed to the District Five Construction Department at (681) 320-2078.
