3 injured, Harpers Ferry man charged with DUI after crash

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — An 18 year-old and two others are recovering from injuries following a crash involving an intoxicated driver.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it happened at around 5:30 Saturday evening. Deputies responded to a call of a motor vehicle crash with entrapment at the intersection of Old Cave Road and Kabletown Road.

Ronald Helms, 26 of Harpers Ferry.

Ronald Helms, 26 of Harpers Ferry, was charged with driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury. Deputies allege Helms failed his breathalyzer test and refused to have his blood drawn.

Deputies say an 18 year-old female was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Two others were taken to Jefferson Medical Center with less serious injuries.
