Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Warns of Scam

HAGERSTOWN, MD — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a telephone scam where unknown subjects are calling members of the public acting as if they are Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. One of the names being used is Lt. Peters, there is no such employee at the Sheriff’s Office. These individuals are persuading individuals to pay them with US Currency or gift cards to avoid law enforcement action.
The Sheriff’s Office will never ask anyone for funds in this manner. “Please use caution, and when in doubt, call the Sheriff’s Office’s non-emergency phone number to clarify,” according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.
