Washington County confirms first COVID-19 death

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A Washington County official has confirmed a 20 year-old woman has died from the coronavirus.

Health Officer Earl Stoner made the announcement Friday afternoon. The woman had underlying medical conditions.

“I am deeply saddened to announce this loss of a member of our community,” said Stoner. “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family and friends.”

The Washington County Joint Information Center reminds residents to follow the directives by Gov. Larry Hogan to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

“Please continue to practice social distancing, stay home unless it is for an essential reason, disinfect commonly touched surfaces, and wash your hands frequently,” a release from Washington County said.
