MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The year-long commemoration of Berkeley County’s 250th year reached its pinnacle with a ‘bang’ Sunday.
That’s when residents were invited to attend an hours-long celebration at the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport with live entertainment that culminated in a fireworks show.
Matt Umstead, Chair of Berkeley County 250th Commemoration Steering Committee and Director, Office of Strategic Planning & Communications for Berkeley County said he’s gotten a lot of positive feedback.
He said the fireworks show was a hit and talked about a moment that punctuated the months of effort when the first firework went off.
Most of the official organized events are over, but there are plans for a permanent museum dedicated to Berkeley County history, and the history lessons will continue with talks by local historians.
