Sims named head football coach for Spring Mills Cardinals

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A now-former Morgantown High School assistant coach has been named head coach at Spring Mills High School.

The hiring of Joshua Sims was officially approved during Monday’s Berkeley County Board of Education meeting.

Sims played for Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He was a member of the 2006 West Virginia Mountaineer Gator Bowl Championship team.

After graduating high school, Sims was invited to play at West Virginia University as a walk-on by then-Coach Bill Stewart from 2006-2008.

His college football career was cut short due to a severe ACLK/MCL Injury. In 2013, Sims returned to Magnolia High School for his first assistant coaching position.

“Ultimately, I have a passion for being a part of something larger than myself and helping to lead men and develop kids,” Sims said. “(Coach Stewart taught) it all begins and ends with character. If you build character as a coach, then there is no way you can lose.”

Sims holds multiple education degrees from WVU including a bachelor’s in Interdepartmental Studies, a masters in Secondary Education and a Special Education certification.

Sims replaces former Spring Mills football coach Chad Williams, who resigned after two seasons.

The Spring Mills Cardinals football team is scheduled to play Washington at home on Friday, September 4.
