School resumes following massive snow

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Students across the Eastern Panhandle return to the class room Monday after a massive winter storm shut down schools for more than a week, but things are still not back to normal.

Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson County Schools all started with a two-hour delay and many roads are not fully cleared.

Superintendent of Berkeley County Schools Manny Arvon said last week during a special snow storm edition of “Panhandle Live”  that they they understand not all areas will be clear when school begins.

He urged parents to use their best judgement.

“We will know those roads and locations,” Arvon said.

He said they will give excused absences if there are bus stops they can not reach.

As much as 42 inches of snow was reported in some parts of Berkeley County.

It took road crews four days to reach some secondary roads.
