CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Potomac Edison has filed a request with the West Virginia
Public Service Commission to increase
rates, tolls and charges for electric service to approximately 550,000 customers
in areas across the state, including Berkeley, Jefferson,
Morgan, Hampshire, and Hardy.
If approved, the average base rate will go up by 15 percent for residential customers,
12.5 percent for commercial customers, and 9.4 percent for industrial customers.
The announcement from the power company says
“the increases shown are based on averages of
all customers in the indicated class. Individual
customers may receive increases that are greater
or lesser than the average shown.”
“The requested rates and charges are only a proposal and
are subject to change (increases or decreases) by the
Public Service Commission in its review of this filing.”
Any increase in rates and charges will not become
effective until authorized and approved by the Public
Service Commission.
Anyone desiring to intervene in this case should file
a written petition to intervene prior to September
15, 2023,
