MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Second District Congressman Alex Mooney is set to appear at the 25th Annual West Virginia Toughman Competition in Martinsburg Saturday.
Event promoter Jerry Thomas said Mooney is scheduled to make a special presentation to Martinsburg native Terry Ballard.
“Perry won the World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Middleweight title last year,” Thomas said. “Perry did that at the tender age of 45.”
Thomas said Ballard went on to retire from boxing but will be at Toughman to receive the recognition.
More than 160 people are set to fight in this year’s competition.
Thomas said there are many who have professional boxing careers after competing in the amateur contest.
“We find that people who compete and win at Toughman Contests like to go on, in a lot of cases, and take it to the next level,” Thomas said.
Toughman takes place Friday and Saturday night at the Berkeley 2000 Rec Center.
