CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Former Washington Redskins player Ron Saul has passed away.
His wife Robin reached out to the Panhandle News Network to share the news.
She said Ron Saul passed away June 16th after suffering a traumatic brain injury in March. She and her son were by his side.
The Sauls had lived in Charles Town for ten years and made appearances on Panhandle Live to discuss charitable outreach Ron Saul was still doing even in retirement.
Ron Saul was an offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers and the Washington Redskins. He played college football at Michigan State University and was drafted in the fifth round of the 1970 NFL Draft.
The Washington Football Team expressed their condolences “on behalf of Dan and Tanya Snyder and the entire Washington Football Team.”
Saul earned three letters at Michigan State, where he made first-team Academic All-America honors in 1969. The Houston Oilers selected Saul in the fifth round of the 1970 draft.
He played six seasons with the Oilers and six more in Washington, finishing his career after the 1981 season.
Saul played 142 games, starting 113, in his career.
He was 73.
