Public hearing Set for January 22 in Power Company Rate Case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A public hearing is set before the Public Service Commission of West Virginia in a $207.4 million rate increase proposal filed by Monongahela Power Co. and The Potomac Edison Co.

That hearing will be held January 22 at 5:30 p.m.                     

A press release from the state PSC says those interested in commenting can do so via phone, through the Microsoft Teams application from the internet, or in-person at the Commission headquarters, 201 Brooks St., Charleston. Those intending to comment should register with the Commission by 4 p.m. January 18.

Folks who want to comment in person at the public comment hearing are not required to register, but should plan to arrive at PSC headquarters by 5:30 p.m. on January 22.

Written comments should be submitted to Executive Secretary, P.O. Box 812, Charleston, West Virginia 25323 or online at www.psc.state.wv.us by clicking on “Submit A Comment” in the left column and following the directions for “Formal Case.” All written comments should be marked with Case No. 23-0460-E-42T. Interested persons may also attend in person or watch the hearing via webcast. The webcast may be viewed by clicking “Commission Webcast” on the left side of the Commission’s website homepage.

According to the PSC, the Commission has received 1,285 written comments on the proposed 13 percent increase, which would add $18.07 to the average monthly bill. The case was filed May 31, 2023.

The evidentiary hearing starts at 9:30 a.m. January 24 at the PSC headquarters. It will also be available to view via the Commission Webcast link.
