PSC to Hold Public Comment Hearings In Jefferson County Next Month

CHARLESTON, W,Va. — The Public Service Commission has scheduled two public comment hearings at the Jefferson County Courthouse on February 6, 2023, in Judge Hammer’s Courtroom, 100 East Washington Street, Charles Town, WV.

At 5:30 p.m., the Commission will hold a public comment hearing on the proposed Rippon Solar Energy Facility.  Rippon Energy proposes to construct a 99 megawatt solar generating facility on approximately 1,000 acres of agricultural land in Jefferson County.  The estimated investment for the facility is approximately $125.4 million.  Details regarding an evidentiary hearing on this matter will be announced shortly.

At 6:30 p.m., the Commission will hold a public comment hearing on the joint application by West Virginia American Water (WVAW); Jefferson Utilities, Inc. (JUI); Valley Water and Sewer Services (VWSS); East Jefferson Sewer Services (EJSS) and Shenandoah Junction Public Sewer, Inc. (SJPS) for WVAW to acquire the assets of JUI, VWSS, EJSS and SJPS.  The acquisition would include the assets of Cave Road Utilities.  An evidentiary hearing on this matter will be on January 25, continuing on January 26 if necessary, held at the PSC Headquarter Building.

“Hearing from the public is an important part of the Commission’s decision-making process,” said Public Service Commission Chairman Charlotte Lane.  “These public comment hearings give the Commissioners an opportunity to meet face-to-face with the ratepayers.  However, if you can’t attend the hearings, you may still submit comments online or by mail.  We want to hear from as many people as possible.”
