New York man sentenced for threatening to kill U.S. Senator Joe Manchin in 2022 Call to Martinsburg Field Office

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A New York man received his sentence Wednesday for threatening to kill U.S. Senator Joe Manchin two years ago.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Robert F. Crosson, 60, was sentenced to 16 months in prison. That time will be followed by three years of supervised release.

In February 2022, Crosson left a voicemail with Manchin’s office in Martinsburg saying there was “a bullet coming to your head soon.”

Crosson pleaded guilty to threatening a federal official in October 2022.

In imposing the sentence, Judge Groh noted the seriousness of the offense and also stressed the importance of deterring threats of violence against public officials.

The prosecution was handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, following the recusal of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.

The FBI and U.S. Capitol Police conducted the investigation.
