Murder, Suicide remain under investigation in Jefferson County as Police Look Into Possible Connection

RANSON, W.Va. — A woman was found stabbed to death Sunday in her apartment in Ranson and her vehicle was found at a Jefferson County hotel where a man died by suicide the same day.

Ranson Police Chief Robbie Roberts tells MetroNews affiliate The Panhandle News Network that Taisha Bailey, 37, of Ranson, suffered “multiple stab wounds.” Roberts said the murder likely happened “in the wee hours” of Sunday morning.

Roberts said officers were called to a local motel at 9 a.m. Sunday where they found a man who had died of an apparent suicide. Bailey’s vehicle was found in the parking lot of the motel.

Roberts said blood evidence will be tested for DNA that might match the man to the crime scene. He says both bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Investigators believe the two had been acquainted and had dated, although Roberts said the two had not dated “steadily.”  Roberts confirmed both the man and Bailey were local to the Ranson area.

Roberts said the identity is not being released as being related to the woman’s death unless the DNA tests indicate a connection between the man at the motel and the victim.
