Martinsburg Vaccine Clinic Doses Spoken For an Hour into Open

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Half an hour after the official start of a community vaccination event for those 70 and older in Martinsburg today, the slots had been assigned.

Berkeley and Morgan County Health Department’s Dr. Kevin McLaughlin tells the Panhandle News Network 650 folks that were in line were allocated the slots for those doses. Vehicles started lining up at 5 a.m. at the Berkeley 2000 Rec Center this morning in Martinsburg.

The Panhandle News Network got word that those lined up who hadn’t been given a number were being turned away around 10:30, half an hour after the event’s official start time.

There was tremendous interest in the event, and Martinsburg-based Patient Care Transportation Care had made an offer to transport folks to the event for free earlier in the day.

No word yet on when another vaccination event will be held.
