Lippman Sentencing Set

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The former Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department deputy accused of assaulting and battering his wife multiple times and threatening to shoot her entered an Alford plea Friday in circuit court.

An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt, but rather an acknowledgment that the prosecution has sufficient evidence to place a conviction.

43 year old Robert Lippman of Martinsburg is charged with 2 counts of domestic assault for his actions with the unloaded handgun, and 6 counts of domestic battery for other physical altercations.

Berkeley County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Tim Helman, said the victim would like to see Lippman free on bond.

He said, “The victim did not wish for him to immediately go to jail – that was her wishes today as well.  She wanted him to remain free on bond pending sentencing.”

Lippman is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11.
