Juneteenth Commemoration coming to Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Juneteenth Commemoration is set for Martinsburg this Sunday.

It’s set for this Sunday, June 18th at the Sumner Ramer Center at 515 W. Martin Street in Martinsburg beginning at 12:30 p.m. The former school building features exhibits year round
about the experience of local African-American students who attended the school during the time of segregation.

Helen and Leonard Harris will host the commemoration and educational opportunity. Refreshments will be provided by the Saint Agnes Catholic Church community.

Juneteenth is marked on June 19th each year to commemorate the official emancipation  of enslaved people in the United States June 19th of 1865.
