Jefferson County Students to shadow area businesses through school system partnership

JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. — Students from Washington and Jefferson high schools will soon have the opportunity to work closely with business professionals thanks to the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.

On Friday, a Job Shadow day will take place where students will have the chance to shadow about 30 different local businesses ranging from finance, real estate, health and law enforcement.

The program now, in its fourth year, came to fruition through the Chamber’s High School Business Symposium.

Executive Director Heather Morgan McIntyre said on Tuesday’s ‘Panhandle Live’ that the chamber encourages these interactions between students and local businesses.

“I’m a firm believer of getting students and businesses together,” said McIntyre. “If this generation is going to be the up and coming in the business world, then what better way to keep them in the area then to have them actually shadow a business.”

36 students will be a part of the program Friday; 16 from Washington High and 20 from Jefferson.
