GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. — A stolen ATV out of Frederick County Virginia has been located in Gerrardstown, along with illegal drugs and a growing operation.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department tells the Panhandle News Network they got a request for assistance Sunday from their counterparts in Frederick County who were attempting to locate a stolen Polaris ATV.
Deputies were able to track the ATV down to a location on Driftwood Drive in Gerrardstown, where they report it was parked in plain view.
Acting on information that additional stolen items might be at the location, deputies obtained a search warrant for the home, property and buildings.
When they suspected a growing operation for marijuana, deputies obtained a second search warrant.
Deputies found allegedly stolen goods including a TV, a Tree Stand, and a key box were recovered alongside the UTV that were all confirmed to have been stolen from the residence in Frederick County, Virginia.
As part of the second search warrant, deputies located “a total of 6 marijuana plants, approximately 27 oz of methamphetamine, 6 loaded syringes of amphetamine, 2 mason jars of marijuana, a 9mm pistol, a lever action rifle, several communication devices, and a large amount of packing material.” Those items were seized for evidence.
This investigation continues, and the Sheriff’s Department anticipates releasing more information pending arrests. Suspect information will be released upon arrest, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

“Cpl. McBee along with Deputy Dunigan, Deputy Robinson, Deputy Smith, Deputy Peck, and Sgt. Anaya then executed that warrant on the property. Almost immediately officers became aware of a manufactured marijuana grow in the basement of the home as well as a large amount of drug paraphernalia,” according to the press release from the sheriff’s department.
“Due to the search warrant not covering narcotics Deputies again secured the scene while Cpl. McBee filed for a second search warrant to cover a complete search of the home and all criminal activity therein. That subsequent search was completed by Cpl. McBee, Dep. Robinson, Dep. Peck, and Sgt. Anaya.”
Investigator Brian Bean from the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force assisted officers on scene by analyzing the aforementioned substances with a TruNarc (drug detection device) and thereby providing confirmation that the seized narcotics were illegal substances. This investigation is ongoing.
