Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital Announces “Women of Distinction” for 2023

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital have announced their women of distinction for 2023.

They’ve named a woman from each county in the Eastern Panhandle.

In a press release announcing the winners, the organization says they aim “to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place– many amazing women contribute to this mission in a variety of ways.”

Each year, Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital honors Women of Distinction (WOD) who are leaders in their communities.

From the press release:

This year Nations Capital is proud to recognize Margie Bartles, Dawn Beal and Tiffany Lawrence.

Margie Bartles, Broker for Long and Foster Real Estate WV, serves on the Board of Directors for CNB Bank, the Airport Authority, and Berkeley County Development Authority- but is known as a mentor and friend to many. Margie is serving as a governor-appointed Real Estate commissioner for West Virginia, and as Director for the Library Foundation of Berkley County. Her community philanthropy also includes volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Margie is a motivating role model and support for young girls and women.

Dawn Beal, Director of Morgan County’s Park & Recreation, is an active member of the Morgan County Partnership board, Morgan County EXPO board, and the Morgan County Parks and Recreation Board. She also serves the local school system as a volunteer event coordinator at Widmyer Elementary. Dawn, a Gold Award Girl Scout, is involved in 4-H on a club, county, and regional level- organizing fundraisers and coordinating events. Her community investment and leadership are an inspiration to many young women.

Tiffany Lawrence, DEL, MBA, Shenandoah Valley Lead Director for Orion Strategies, has served three terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates representing the 65th District and has a passion for her community that has continued through many channels. She has volunteered in many capacities at her local 4-H chapter, and currently serves as a member of the Washington High School Business Education Advisory Council, the Jefferson County Fair Association, the Board of Directors of the East Ridge Health Systems, and Charles Town Rotary Club. Tiffany has also served on the Board of Directors for the Miss West Virginia Organization, after passing on her crown in 2007. This passion for youth extends to mentoring both pageant youth and communication professionals. She also created an annual scholarship for freshman business majors at Shepherd University. Tiffany is an outstanding mother, mentor, and leader whose philanthropy inspires and supports many.

The Council’s Women of Distinction event will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg. Proceeds from WOD support Girl Scouts in our region so they can gain the skills and resources they need to build a lifetime of leadership, success, and adventure.
