Four Hedgesville High students arrested for alleged online threats

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Four Hedgesville High School students face unspecified charges after allegedly making threats toward the school on social media.

Berkeley County Sheriff Kenny Lemaster said the four male students were all about 16 years old.

A fifth student was involved but there was not enough evidence for an arrest.

Lemaster said his deputies worked with school officials and the situation was brought quickly under control.

“That was the biggest thing to get out to everybody, that it was safe to go to school today,” Lemaster said in an interview.

“The cooperation with the Berkeley County School System and our law enforcement agencies is outstanding,” Superintendent Manny Arvon told Hans Fogle Tuesday on Panhandle Live.

Arvon said the high school’s resource officer, Calvin Wilmer, went into action as soon as the information regarding the threat was received.

Once a student was identified the investigation was handed over to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.

Arvon said a thourough investigation was conducted Monday to make sure students were safe.

The name of the social media site or the exact nature of the threats have not been released.

Berkeley County School officials have suspended the students and will be recommending expulsion.
