Flood Watches Starting to Wane

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — The flood watch for Morgan County has been lifted as of Thursday afternoon, about 4 hours earlier than anticipated.

There is still a flood warning in effect until 1 AM Friday morning for the Cacapon River area, but the river has only risen to just over 9 feet, which is barely above the flood stage.

Rockford Road, Constant Run Road, and Powerhouse Road all will still show signs of flooding during this time, but Zach Caldwell, the Director of Morgan County Emergency Management, says the real problem will be the debris left over afterwards.

“We’ll be shifting from water safety and flood safety to having to clear those roadways.  Fortunately W.V. Division of Transportation in Morgan County has been positively outstanding over the last couple of weeks.  They really could not have done a better job.” Caldwell said.

He also stated, “We’re looking at 13 to 25 mile per hour gusts on Friday into Saturday as well, other than that it seems the worst is tapering off.”

Caldwell says there’s also a chance for colder temperatures tonight, and that everyone should be on the lookout for black ice and slick patches on Friday as well.
