Family Treated to South Berkeley Hospitality after Harrowing Accident on I-81

INWOOD, W.Va. — It could have been a tragedy. A Pennsylvania family was traveling on the interstate through South Berkeley County Friday (September 2nd) afternoon when two tires from a tractor trailer separated and hit their van head on. The family of four and their German Shepherd narrowly escaped injury. Their vehicle was undriveable.

Members of the South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Company were among the crews responding. They took the family, their dog, and their belongings to their firehouse in Inwood. While the family waited for a ride from their loved ones, they were treated to pizza, drinks, and desserts from the Inwood Dominoes and got a tour of the firehouse and some SBVFD challenge coins. After spending seven hours at the firehouse, the family went on their way to their destination.

In a post this week, the South Berkeley Fire Department acknowledged the hospitality and teamwork from the first responders and community in helping the family during their ‘time of need.’
