False Report Caused Fear in Charles Town; Man Charged

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — It was a false report. That’s what the Charles Town Police Department is saying about a July 31st report of an armed robbery that supposedly took place in the area of South George Street and West Academy Street.

56-year-old Donald Wayne Fultz of Charles Town told police a man displayed a firearm and demanded cash.

On Wednesday, police said the matter was brought to a conclusion when Fultz admitted the incident never occurred.

The Charles Town Police Department report said solving the incident had been a priority of officers, adding the department ” has invested considerable time and personnel into solving this case” and that the incident caused undo stress, fear, and apprehension in the community.

On Thursday, Fultz was taken into custody. He’s been charged with falsely reporting an emergency incident.

“Incidents such as this will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” according to the statement.
