Martinsburg, W.Va – A statement from the WV state police.
On Thursday, February 29, 2024, at approximately 0750 hours, Tpr. D.E. Smith was notified of a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Development Drive and Corning Way, in the Martinsburg area of Berkeley County WV. While enroute, WVSP Romney Communications advised a male patient was undergoing CPR and a juvenile female (7 years old) was inside of the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation of the accident by Tpr. Smith determined the driver, Mr. Jaqae T. Bunny, (31-year-old male) of Ranson, WV, was operating a 2010 Nissan Ultima, traveling west on Corning Way. Mr. Bunny failed to stop, traveling through the intersection with Development Drive without slowing, exiting the western roadway edge, and striking an embankment.
Tpr. Smith traveled to Berkeley Medical Center and was advised Mr. Bunny died as a result of injuries from the accident. They juvenile was treated for minor injuries. This investigation is ongoing.
