MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — An early morning storm Tuesday started out as a rain event before becoming a snowstorm, right as the morning commute was underway.
The storm closed area schools and causes traffic headaches. Rt. 51, 45 and Buck Hill Roads near Gerrardstown were completely shut down at the top of the hill for more than hour Tuesday morning.
On Interstate 81, the morning began with a jacknifed tractor trailer in the median near Mile Marker 9. There were a number of other accidents throughout the morning on the 25-mile stretch of interstate.
Then, near the Spring Mills Exit, traffic was halted in both directions after a power line came down across the busy interstate. Traffic was rerouted for more than an hour.
Power was out for nearly three thousand customers across the three counties in the Eastern Panhandle as the storm began to exit around 10:00 a.m. You can see updated outage numbers here.
