BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — There’s an update on US 522 bypass work.
The West Virginia Division of Highways District 5 Construction Engineer Daniel Watts says work on the Berkeley Spring Bypass, US 522, project continues as crews are currently working on waterlines.
In April, crews will begin to construct a roundabout on the southern end of the project.
Final grading and preparation for placement of asphalt paving will take place this summer, followed by paving. 
Over the winter, bridge construction continued as weather permitted.
The estimated completion date for the project is Fall 2024.
The 3.4 mile bypass will go from just south of Berkeley Springs to state Route 9. The project includes three bridges, three intersections and a new interchange with Route 9.
The bypass has been in the works for decades, but contracts were awarded beginning in 2020. A trade publication “Concrete Pipe & Precast” at the time announced one of the contractors as Trumbull Corporation and reported the existing road carried about 13,400 vehicles a day, with about 30% of them being trucks.
