Dexter Manley to headline Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission fundraiser

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Supporting the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission this month comes with a ‘big’ perk.

Dexter Manley, the 6’3″ 253 pound Redskins Hall of Famer, will be the keynote speaker next week at a special dinner benefitting the downtown mission.

“We’re teaming up with the Washington Redskins, and they’re loaning us Dexter for the night,” said Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission Superintendent Pastor Tim Guerino. “Very powerful story if you know a lot about his situation. He can share with a lot of people that, hey, you can overcome a lot of life challenges, from medical, to addiction, to homelessness, to where he’s at now.”

Guerino said they are always in need of volunteers and donations to keep their mission going. He added the mission isn’t limited to the men who spend the night there.

“We’ve served over 54,000 meals this year alone. A lot of people don’t realize that. We serve the public on a regular basis. Every day, seven days a week; 365 days a year.”

The Celebrity Dinner is set for 6 p.m. November 14th at the Holiday Inn on Foxcroft Avenue. Tickets are $25 each. You can get more information by calling (304) 263-6901 ext. 2.

Guerino was a guest on Thursday’s Panhandle Live.
